FRAMINGHAM – The Memorial Building was open with a skeleton crew Wednesday after two sewer line blockages forced the town to temporarily close all the bathrooms in the building.
As crews work to fix the problem, Town Manager Bob Halpin said he authorized some employees to leave work early because of the lack of public or staff restrooms.
Public Information Officer Nichol Figueiredo said there were two blockages, and crews had made progress by late afternoon.
“One of the blockages was caused by tree roots that had gotten into the 1925 clay pipe on the Concord Street side,” Figueiredo said. “We’re still determining what the issue was with the other internal blockage.”
Halpin said the DPW’s Sewer Department tried to clear a line from outside without success and has determined one blockage is inside the building system.
“We will have to address it from inside the building though an interior cleanout,” Halpin wrote in an email. “This will likely result in a backup in the basement level of the building.”
The town dealt with another sewer line blockage last week caused by an abundance of paper products being flushed, Figueiredo said.
The town said it would post updates on its website, ..........gov.
