Waco: Council OKs $90 Million For Water, Sewer Improvements

time2015/12/04

WACO (December 2, 2015) The Waco City Council has approved issuing $90 million in certificates of obligation to pay for major improvements in the city’s water and sewer systems. The approval Tuesday was the first step in a 10-year capital improvement program aimed at repairing aging infrastructure.City officials plan to spend $55 million on sewer improvements, $30 million on water improvements, and $4 million on building and street renovations. The most costly projects will be relocating a sewer transfer station near the Brazos River and replacing a nearly 100-year-old ground storagetank near Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center, which serves parts of West Waco. The city says it's much more cost effective to fix the problems now, instead of waiting for something to go wrong. As a result of the vote Tuesday, customers can expect about a $4.66 a month increase in water and sewer bills starting Jan. 12.Additional increases are likely over the course of the next decade, and by 2025, some customers may be paying as much as $30 more a month than they are now.
